FAQ

What you need to know

Cosmetic tattoo is a semi-permanent beauty procedure designed to enhance your natural features.
High quality pigment is implanted into the superficial dermis of the skin with a fine needle, or a microblade.
All instruments are all single use to prevent infection.
I am approved to provide cosmetic tattoo services by the Government and local health department.

How long does the tattoo last?

Cosmetic tattoo is semi permanent.

This means the benefits can last for between 6-24+ months depending on skin type, lifestyle choices, and beauty regimes.

Over time the pigment will begin to fade; the colour lightens and areas may appear faded.

Other factors such as high exposure to the sun or professional skin treatments like chemical peels & laser that could come into contact with the brow area can fade the tattooing. Home facial care products that contain AHA’S, retintols & vitamin A can also cause your brows to fade more quickly.

I recommend yearly touch ups

How do I care for my new cosmetic tattoo?

I’ll provide you with aftercare cream at your appointment. A light layer should be applied with a clean cotton tip 3 X a day.
Avoid saturating your tattoo in water for a five days. No cleansers or makeup should be used directly on the area for one week. Avoid rubbing or picking your tattoo.
It is normal for colour to appear on the cotton tip as you apply the cream, or you may form a very soft scab that falls away in that first week

What do I expect in the healing process?

In the first few days following the treatment, pigment will appear dark & intense. Redness & swelling is rare, however can be experienced by some. The pigment will start to appear lighter in the first week. After the initial dark phase of the healing process some will find their brows become patchy as the dark layer sheds off. Once the shedding phase is complete the strokes can appear too light or as if they have gone, but they will begin to come back over a few days. After two weeks your brows will be mostly healed, however they can take another week or two after that to settle in properly and for the true results to appear. Any strokes that may have healed too light or any uneven patches are fixed at the touch-up appointment.

I had my brows tattooed by another technician, and only need a touch up. Will you do this?

I would love to make an appointment for you!

Touch ups where tattoo has been completed previously by another artist is will be booked as a new client appointment. Time will be spent to re-measure, redraw and reshape your brows during your consultation, ultimately reworking another technicians job.

I do request a photo to be sent upon enquiry if they have been previously tattooed by another technician to ensure your desired result can be achieved.

What type of Anesthetic cream do you use?

Each client is required to purchase their anaesthetic creams from a chemist or a compounding pharmacy prior to their appointment.

Two seperate creams are recommended  to make your appointment as comfortable as possible.

One is applied 30 minutes prior to your appointment so your brows are numb when we start and the other cream is used throughout the procedure to keep them numb, The recommended creams are as follows,

15mls Lignocaine 6% Tetracaine 4% Lipoderm Base – Apply 30 minutes minutes prior

15mls- Lignocaine 6% Tetracaine 4% Epinephrine 0.1% Gel Base – used during the procedure.

I have a account with a compounding chemist at Tugan 07 55982411

If you call them and say your a client at Lash Tide they will ask you some relevant questions and take a payment from you

Alternatively you can apply Emla or Nummit which can be purchased off the shelf from any Chemist, although it is not a strong as the compounded creams that is your choice x

Can anyone get their brows tattooed?

As a precaution, I do not perform Cosmetic tattooing if any of the below apply:

Pregnant/Breastfeeding

Cancer

Taking Blood Thinners

Diabetes*

Roaccutane

Have had botox in the last 2 weeks

Have skin diseases or irritation

*If you are diabetic, before deciding on brows, you must be healthy and ensure that your diabetes is well controlled. High blood sugar levels, for example, can complicate the healing process and increase the risk of infection.

What should I do before my appointment?

There is no need to pluck, thread, wax or groom your brows before your appointment.

If you have very full brows and like to constantly keep them tidy, or have very fair brows and like them tinted a certain shade, you can do this prior to your appointment to demonstrate the colour or way your groom them.

You may also wear brow pencil or powder to your appointment, but this will be wiped away and time will be spent measuring and shaping your brows.

Your brows will be plucked and shaped during your appointment, so please feel comfortable arriving makeup free and ready for a new enhancement.

If you have a holiday booked, it is recommended to have your brows done at least 14 days before you set off on your trip.

Sun exposure, especially whilst healing, is detrimental to the pigment having good retention. You also shouldn’t swim for at least 10 days after your appointment.

Cease taking any blood thinning medications/vitamins 72 hours prior to your appointment. (Provided it has been cleared by your GP) This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.

Is the cosmetic tattooing painful

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area prior to beginning the treatment & during to reduce any discomfort you may feel. The level of pain felt varies from person to person but most clients describe the feeling as just a scratchy feeling & that it is bearable

How old do I have to be to get cosmetic tattooing

You must be 18 years or older.

How many appointments are needed?

Generally a minimum of two appointments are required for your brow make over. The initial appointment to create your new brows and another follow up appointment to touch up and perfect any areas that haven’t held.

Is there a deposit when booking

All cosmetic tattooing appointments require a $50 non refundable deposit at the time of booking. If your appointment is cancelled you will forfeit your deposit. Any appointment rescheduling must be done 48 hours prior to appointment.

The deposit is used to rule out time wasters and is used to cover the cost of time that was allowed for your appointment. The $50 will be deducted off the cost on the day of your appointment.
